Description
Prevents ice buildup on roofs and keeps houses warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Made of high-impact polystyrene. Ideal for new construction and retrofit applications. Wide flanges for easy stapling. Full joist coverage for maximum air flow. Installing attic ventilation channels between the rafters or trusses provides an unobstructed air channel through the insulation. Without attic ventilation channels, air cannot flow freely from the soffit to the exhaust vents. Poor air flow reduces insulation efficiencies and accelerates problems due to moisture. 1 ventilation channel per rafter or truss cavity is recommended. I have done it the hard way and the easy way. About seven years ago, I decided to put in rockwool type of insulation, and as part of doing so, I used this airflow baffle. Back then I crawled inside my lower attic that had a shallow sloped roof. Today, I am doing a full renovation of my kitchen, removing part of the ceiling drywall and old insulation, which exposed the underside of the roof. I am, again, using this product.Step one, it's unnecessary to shove it all the way to the soffit grating; it only needs to go passed the outer edge of the outside wall below. Step two, once in position staple it to the underside of the roof, using 1/4" staples. Be careful of the roof nails, if they penetrate the baffle, it's okay. Step three, put the insulation right up to the edge of the joist track, sealing the gap with the insulation, so that the insulation sits on top of the ceiling below and not obstructing the airflow of the soffit. There is no need for caulking, as it main purpose it to provide an unobstructed airflow into the attic from the soffits and out through the attic ridge vent or other roof venting system. There's no need for caulking.
